In last week's "Secrets and Lies" Episode 7, "The Cop," Ben Crawford started his investigation into Detective Cornell with Arthur Fenton, the reporter. Fenton had collected numerous newspaper clippings and more over time that suggested Cornell is a dirty cop, and the two men set out to prove it.

Ben visited a prison inmate who has a history with Cornell. The information the inmate provided may prove that she's a crooked cop, but an anonymous tip to law enforcement caused everyone's attention to shift back to Ben.

Cornell had uncovered damning video that all but guaranteed Ben would be charged with Tom Murphy's death. The situation added more tension to the already stressed Crawford family.

It seems unconceivable that Ben would kill Tom -- the son he had with Jess as a result of their affair -- but someone is trying to frame him for Tom's death. Who could it be?

In Sunday's upcoming Episode 8 "The Son," Ben is all alone on Christmas Eve. He is overwhelmed with anxiety about the incriminating video that Cornell could use to prove his guilt in Tom's murder. Desperate to retrace his steps the night of the murder, he asks Dave to accompany him, and the two men search for clues. He is looking for any clue that might jog his memory of what happened that tragic night and clear his good name.

Meanwhile, the Crawford's marriage is quickly falling into disarray. Christy and Ben's arguments become increasingly heated, and daughters Natalie and Abby are caught in the crossfire.

Ben's lawyer, John Garner, devises an alternative theory about the murder, which leads to a shocking new discovery.

In the digital series "Cornell: Confidential," which picks up where "Secrets and Lies" leaves off, Cornell visits Christy and the girls to tie up loose ends in her investigation. In doing so, she is reminded of what a huge presence Tom was in the Crawford household.

Watch Episode 8 "The Son" of "Secrets and Lies" on Sunday, April 19, at 9 p.m. on ABC.
