Jill Duggar Dillard Gives Birth to Healthy Baby Boy
The first daughter of Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar to be married from TLC's hit reality show "19 Kids and Counting" has become the first mother.
Jill and Derick Dillard welcomed their baby boy into the world on Monday at 11:49 p.m., reports the Duggar Family website.
Baby Dilly, as nicknamed by his eager parents, was late to arrive. Jill, who is a student midwife, said she expected a late arrival and gave herself two due dates -- March 24 and April 5.
"I have told myself, 'First-time moms often go a week and a half over, so don't get discouraged,'" she told People magazine. "When everyone else is asking you, 'When are you going to have that baby?' The baby will come when the baby comes."
The new parents shot video footage from Jill's hospital bed where they cuddled with their precious newborn named Israel David Dillard. Arm around his wife, Derick, 26, says in the video, "Hey everybody, it's Derick and Jill Dillard, and we've got an exciting birth announcement. We're so excited to announce the birth of our son, Israel David Dillard."
Jill, 23, glowing and alert, cradled her first child in her arms. "He weighs a whopping 9 pounds, 10 ounces, and he was 23 inches in length," she says.
She says that not everything went as expected. "We were reminded of the verse that the Bible talks about where man plans his way but the Lord directs his steps. We were encouraged by that and yeah, he's just a handsome little fellow."
The new mother does not say what exactly happened, but we know that Jill had intended to give birth at home. Since she is hospitalized in the video, the birth of Israel must have required medical care beyond the skills of a midwife.
Jill says in the video that TLC will be "showing the birth episode as well as things surrounding that" on the May 5 episode of "19 Kids and Counting."
"19 Kids and Counting" airs Tuesdays 9 p.m. ET on TLC.
