"Tron 3" is a go, although progress is slow, according to Screenrant.

With the previous film in the installment grossing more than $400 million worldwide, and the first one grossing only $33 million in the United States, "Tron 3" has set the stage for yet another great return to the emerging saga.

Garret Hedlund, who previously played the son of Kevin Flynn (Jeff Bridges), Sam Flynn, will be returning to reprise his role for this third adaptation in the Tron universe, CNN reports.

Also in the previous film was Quorra, who was played Olivia Wilde. Quorra was an algorithm made into a human. She was the film's primary protagonist and main action figure. She was said to be Kevin Flynn's confidante, or apprentice, who longed for the human world outside the grid.

The "Tron 3" project had been in the works since 2012, as reported by Hollywood Reporter, and Hedlund previously said he would return when the estimated start date was 2014. But now, the production has been scheduled to start this fall in Vancouver, British Columbia.

Rumors originally pointed to the first "Tron" movie's box office gross as a reason that a sequel would not be made. But over the years, the cult following for the movie gave the project a green light and box-office returns have impressed the studio enough to continue production.

Hollywood Reporter also confirms that Justin Springer will be producing, and Joseph Kosinski will be back as director.

Even though the first Tron was all about Kevin Flynn and the second was about Sam's journey, there are rumors, according to Screenrant, that Quorra will be the primary focus in this upcoming movie.
