Netflix’s New Pee-wee Herman Movie Signs 'True Blood' Actor Joe Manganiello
As it turns out, when Joe Manganiello isn't busy leading a wolf pack, fending off vampires or dazzling audiences with his stage body, he is actually quite a comical character.
Audiences everywhere will be able to see that when Netflix releases the next installment in the Pee-wee Herman franchise, "Pee-wee's Big Holiday," as reported on the Pee-wee Herman website.
Pee-wee Herman is played by actor Paul Reubens and has been entertaining children and adults since the '80s with his on-screen character for a variety of platforms, which includes television and film.
The character of Pee-wee actually started in 1980 on the film "Cheech and Chong's Next Movie." He then took the act to HBO with "The Pee-wee Herman Show," which was initially filled with provocative innuendo's that disqualified it as a children's show.
That led to his first movie with a toned down character for kids, "Pee-wee's Big Adventure," which was directed by Tim Burton. The show then transitioned over to a CBS Saturday morning television show, which lasted for five years. The movie also spawned a sequel.
But the character was sidelined following the arrest of Paul Reubens in July 1991, for performing a lewd act in an adult theater, which quickly led to the unpopularity and eventual dissolution of the character.
Pee-wee Herman eventually returned though with a late night stage show in 2009, and now, a new movie that will be coming exclusively to Netflix.
According to Variety, Judd Apatow is slated to produce the film alongside Reubens with John Lee directing and Paul Rust penning the screenplay.
In a recent People article, Manganiello, who has already started filming scenes on the new movie, said, "Paul Reubens is one of the great comic geniuses of our time."
Reubens was also quoted as saying, "Joe's already my friend – and he's tremendously talented and a terrific person."
There is no word yet as to when the movie will be released.
