Nelly Busted on Felony Drug Charges in Tennessee, Guns Also Allegedly Found on Tour Bus
Hip-hop star Nelly was arrested on felony drug charges in Tennessee early Saturday after his tour bus was pulled over and searched by police.
According to TMZ, police cited a litany of offenses after a state trooper pulled the vehicle over for not having a required Department of Transportation sticker. The website adds authorities also allege they found a baggie with crystal rocks that tested positive for meth and a small amount of marijuana in the sleeper area of the bus.
Police also reportedly recovered a cache of weapons, among them a gold-plated .50 caliber Desert Eagle pistol, a .45 caliber Tarus pistol, and a .500 magnum Smith and Wesson. Authorities add they found about 100 small Ziplock bags on the vehicle, which are commonly used for the sale of marijuana and other drugs.
After the trooper immediately smelled marijuana upon pulling the bus over, Nelly was taken into custody on marijuana and drug paraphernalia charges and transported to the Putnam County Jail. Police also took another passenger several media outlets have identified as 44-year-old convicted felon Brian Jones into custody on similar charges. In all, six passengers were reportedly traveling on the vehicle.
According to KMOV in Nelly's hometown of St. Louis, the rap star was traveling in a Prevost motor coach bus bound for Missouri when the incident occurred.
The Times Free Press identified the arresting officer as Trooper Michael Loftis, adding that he stopped the bus just after 9 a.m. on Interstate 40 near the 275 mile marker. Trooper Loftis was later assisted in his "probable cause search" by Sgt. Donald Jennings.
