A judge in Phoenix, Arizona, sentenced Jodi Arias to life in prison Monday with no possibility of ever getting out, according to The Associated Press.

Arias, a convicted murderer, stood by her testimony after the sentencing.

"The most important thing I want to say is that I'm very sorry for the enormous pain I caused to the people who loved Travis," she said. "I'm truly disgusted and I'm repulsed with myself."

Arias portrayed the victim Travis Alexander as a pervert during the last two years of her trial.

Last month, the jury deadlocked on the decision whether or not to give Arias life in prison or the death penalty.

According to ABC News, Prosecutor Juan Martinez said that Alexander's relatives hope that Arias is sentenced to serve life without the possibility of parole "not because they want to be vindictive, but [because] as you have also seen, what happened in that bathroom was a butchering."

The judge removed the decision to give 34-year-old Arias the death penalty while declining the offer of giving her 25 years in prison with the possibility of a release.

Arias is convicted of killing her on-again, off-again boyfriend back in 2008. Prosecutors say she stabbed Alexander nearly 30 times and shot him in retaliation for him wanting to break up with her. She was arrested weeks after his body was found in his Phoenix home.

"He was there for five days," Alexander's sister Samantha said of the time his body was found. "Five days he is there decomposing in the shower. I'm sure his soul was screaming for someone to find him."

Arias was arrested a month after his murder and denied involvement. She also attended his memorial service.

She will begin her life sentence in a maximum security unit just 30 miles west of downtown Phoenix. Arias would be able to move to lower security units if she gives a record of good behavior over time.
