Helio Castroneves' Foxtrot Gets Mixed Reviews on ‘Dancing With The Stars: All-Stars’ Premiere
ABC's Dancing with the Stars: All Stars premiered last night and it was quite interesting.
In its 15th installment, the three opinionated judges awarded scores in half-point increments, for a maximum of 10 points each. The couple with the lowest score after the judges' and viewer votes are combined will be voted off each week, until the final couples remain to battle for the championship.
Season 5 champion Helio Castroneves is hoping his fans vote in high numbers since he was only awarded 21.5 points out of a possible 30 from the judges.
Castroneves' foxtrot seemed to please the audience, and to some degree, the judges.
Judge Bruno Tonioli told Castroneves that he had such a bright, engaging stage presence that people were focused on watching his face and not his feet, adding that he "messed up" quite a bit.
"For me it was a joy to watch... mostly," judge Len Goodman said. "It was good... I'm telling you are a dancer!"
Castroneves danced with Chelsie Hightower, but hasn't had much time to practice his sassy moves - he just finished up the IndyCar season a week ago and is reportedly spent more time with his family - fiancee Adriana Henao and daughter Mikaella, who turns 3 in December.
Castroneves is a three-time winner of the Indianapolis 500.
"Dancing" champion Emmitt Smith cha-cha'ed his way to the top of the leader board with 24.5 points. Goodman said Smith had the best dance of the night. Tonioli told the NFL legend that he was "always a natural with truckloads of charisma."
On the other hand, actress Pamela Anderson's cha-cha did not impress the judges.
"It was a bit shaky but you didn't fall over and you got through it," Goodman said. Tonioli told the "Baywatch" beauty that she needed to work Anderson goes into Tuesday night's Results Show with the lowest points - 17.
One star will be voted off.
