Legendary Latin music artist Selena would have turned 44 Thursday. Now, fans are paying their respects and remembering Selena on the anniversary of her death.

Selena got her start in music in the 1980s. She first sang with her band Selena y Los Dinos, before becoming a successful solo artist. As a solo artist, Selena earned the title of "Queen of Tejano." Tejano is a popular Latin music genre from the American Southwest.

In only 11 years, Selena put out seven albums with Selena Y Los Dinos, four of her own and one live album. Her 1992 album "Entre A Mi Mundo" was certified platinum six times.

Selena's life ended far too soon when she was murdered by Yolanada Salvidar at the age of only 23. This year marked the 20th anniversary of her death.

Fans honored Selena on Twitter with supportive messages and memories.

They used hashtags like #AnythingForSelenas and #WearRedForSelena. Fans shared pictures, song lyrics and pictures of themselves wearing red lipstick in honor of Selena, according to HollywoodLife.com.

Other fans wished Selena a happy birthday on Thursday.

Fans of Selena have also posted happy birthday messages on Suzette Quintanilla's official Facebook page. Suzette was Selena's sister and also a fellow band member in Selena Y Los Dinos.

One fan posted the following message: "Happy birthday to Your beautiful sister Selena. So talented and beautiful and straightforward that's what everyone loves about her thank you for sharing her with us and her music. One day I hope to make it down to Corpus Christi to visit the museum and her memory site. Much love to all. You guys are such a beautiful family."
