'El Señor de los Cielos' Season 3 Spoilers: Aurelio Casillas Will Seduce Leonor, Who Will 'Betray Her Principles'
Fans of Telemundo's "El Señor de los Cielos" are anxiously awaiting the first chapter of the telenovela's third season, which is set to air on Tuesday. The show tells the story of Aurelio Casillas, a Mexican drug lord who ammasses enough power to effectively control his country's entire government, Melty explained.
Rafael Amaya, the 38-year-old Mexican actor who interprets Casillas, has already revealed that the gangster will have a sort of change of heart this season: The drug lord is apparently willing to turn on his allies and cooperate with authorities -- so long as they agree to forgive his crimes in return.
Critics were uncomfortable with a storyline they said turned a criminal into a hero, Melty noted. But "El Señor de los Cielos" is meant to be entertainment -- not an accurate reflection of reality, Amaya insisted.
The show "is a story that is being told, but people need to understand that it is total fiction," he said. "What happens throughout the series is the result of what the directors decide. People are mature and know that this is a story of pure fiction," Amaya acknowledged.
Nevertheless, viewers also seem to have a hard time accepting that Leonor Ballesteros, the incorruptible agent played by Carmen Villalobos, "will be dangerously close to betray her principles (and) for a moment will fall victim to the seduction of her enemy, Aurelio Casillas," El Nuevo Herald detailed.
Those who have their hopes pinned to her are not shy about sharing their concerns with the Colombian actress, she told the newspaper.
"There are people who say, 'Why Ballesteros? Ballesteros was the only one that wouldn't ...'" Villalobos detailed. "Many people on social networks -- most of them Mexicans -- have told me, 'I wish there were more police officers like you'; because it is true that (Ballesteros) is the only character who truly does something against the drug (trade) and corruption," she added.
Also back as a main character in the third season of "El Señor de los Cielos" will be José María "Chema" Venegas (Mauricio Ochmann), who conspires with "the Iranian" to transport uranium to Mexico and on to the United States -- a shady deal is sure to add some international intrigue to the show, Melty noted.
