A few weeks back Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth rocked social media, the internet and television with their highly publicized breakup and broken engagement.

Recently, as part of Barbara Walter's ABC special entitled, "Barbara Walters Presents: The 10 Most Fascinating People of 2013," Walters was able to unearth the details about Miley's breakup with Liam Hensworth and why they decided end their love story and not head down the aisle.

The interview reveals that Miley found the relationship was too much, too soon but she was simply too afraid to let it go. She admits maybe an engagement at 19 was too young but went on to say, "I don't think I realized what 19 truly is, and I got engaged at 19, and I definitely wouldn't change being engaged." Revealing that one of the things she enjoyed about being engaged was being able to wear "a fat rock for years", referring to the 3.5-carat diamond ring Hemsworth gave her during the proposal.

Confirming what has been said numerous times, the breakup was a long time coming. The 21-year old singer told Walters, "I was so scared of ever being alone, and I think, conquering that fear, this year, was actually bigger than any other transition that I had, this entire year."

Miley was candid and confides that she did love the hunky Australian Hemsworth but now believes she can "actually be happy" on her own and looks forward to moments of silence where she can be herself at her own home. Quoted as saying, "I don't ever want to have to need someone again, where you feel like, without them, you can't be yourself."

When asked if she would ever want to be married, Miley said, "I think I'll want that in the times that it needs to be."

As for Liam, Glamor reports that during an interview with the Associated Press, he has been much happier following the break up than he has been in previous years. He has reported that he feels more centered and grounded than ever before. As a response to the cheating rumors, "What I always keep in mind is that I know what the truth is and that's all that matters... I know I'm a good person."

The couple met on the set of "The Last Song" back in 2009 and announced their engagement June of 2012 but 2013 proved to be too rocky with constant rumors of a relationship on the rocks. It was only last September 2013, the couple confirmed their split.
