Google will soon stop offering support for its YouTube app to older devices that do not have the latest version of the app. This means that TVs, Blu-Ray players, iPhone and iPads and devices that run older versions of Google TV will soon be unable to run the YouTube app, CNet reports.

Users wanting to access YouTube content can do so by accessing the YouTube website or by using the app. The website will continue to work, but the app will soon stop working on certain older devices.

On the YouTube help page, Google explains that they are upgrading the app to offer more features and that they be shutting down the current version of the app. The current version of YouTube will no longer work on devices from 2012 and earlier. This includes Smart TVs with the YouTube app.

The help page explains exactly which devices will no longer be able to run the old app. It will also explain what users can do to upgrade to the latest version of YouTube, if possible.

Those trying to access the YouTube app on iOS devices (iPhones and iPads) will need to be running iOS 7.0 or newer. If someone has not ugpraded to at least iOS 7.0 on their iOS device, they will only be able to view YouTube content by going to the mobile website for YouTube.

The third-generation Apple TV will need to update its software and then download the latest YouTube app in order to continue offering support to the app. Anyone with a second-generation or older Apple TV will no longer be able to use the YouTube app since there will not be an app update for those older devices.

People who have a third or fourth-generation Google TV will also need to update their YouTube apps to the latest version. Users will no longer be able to access the YouTube app on Google TV version 2 or older.

Older Sony and Panasonic TVs from prior to 2013 will no longer be able to access the YouTube app. The same is true for Blu-Ray players and certain game consoles. If users' devices allow them to access a web browser they may be able to access YouTube content by going to YouTube.com and running the videos through the built-in browser.
