‘The Last Ship’ Season 2 Spoilers & News: Find Out How the Navy Has Been Helping the TNT Show
For fans of "The Last Ship" on TNT, you will be happy to know that Season 2 of this powerhouse cable drama will be premiering on June 21 at 9 p.m. with two full hours of their much-needed fix.
The second season of this series has been in production in San Diego, according to U~T San Diego, at the San Diego Naval Base aboard the USS William P. Lawrence, which is actually one of five local destroyers that have played the fictional warship on the series.
The Navy has actually been very accommodating for producers of the series, allowing their crews and actors to film there and even providing ships for the series, all free of charge. As stated by a spokesman for the military, they are only allowed to produce their show there as long as it does not interfere with their training schedule for the ships.
For those who are local to the San Diego area, you may notice some familiar faces on the show. Sailors who are off-duty have appeared on the show -- as paid extras, of course. Some of them have frequented places in the area and are quite noticeable, especially to fans of the show, which has steadily developed a large following with increasing ratings, especially for a cable network show.
Season 2 will also hold a few extra cameos, which includes Navy Secretary Ray Mabus. The article also talks about Cmdr. Matthew Niedzwiecki, who can be seen manning a gun along the rails of the fictional ship, looking fierce.
"It has been terrific," Niedzwiecki told U~T San Diego in between filming his scenes. "My kids are so proud."
The second season is poised to strike a new tone, as the threat slowly divests itself from viral to human. Politics have become the new focus of the drama as emerging factions are vying for control and even hindering the mass-production of the cure.
Fans can catch up on episodes from Season 1 on TNT, or on Hulu, which now has exclusive rights to stream the show.
