Where oh where is the Nexus 10 2 tablet? Google's highly anticipated follow-up to the 1st generation Nexus 10 was originally thought to be debuting this year. After all, weak sales halted the original Nexus 10 from being a serious iPad 4 and Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 competitor despite superior specifications. A new device would help boost sales and the 1st generation tablet could thereby be discounted.

Alas, rumors are now cropping up claiming that the Mountain View, California based company is focused on an early 2014 release date for the new Nexus 10. Whatever the case may be, the original Nexus came out all the way back in November 2012. The competition has largely caught up to the Nexus 10.

So while rushing out a successor isn't wise, Google should release the new tablet before consumers forget all about it. Despite the unfortunate release date delays, what can Nexus 10 fans look forward to when the new model gets announced?

New Processor

The new processor would either be Nvidia's Tegra 4 or the Qualcomm Snapdragon 800. Both of these CPUs are very energy efficient and provide immense power. Both of these processors are quad core and when compared to the Dual-core A15 chipset found in the original Nexus 10 absolutely dominate.

More RAM

2GB of RAM is great. 3GB is even better. Expect Google to expand the memory in the new Nexus 10 because more complex applications eat up lots of RAM.

KitKat OS

The Nexus 5 smartphone was the first device Google graced with Android 4.4 KitKat. Featuring faster multitasking, advanced Google Now functionality and a new version of Quickoffice, the new OS would complement a 10" tablet perfectly.

Improved rear camera 

The current Nexus 10 features a 5MP rear-facing camera for capturing beautiful images. The one-year-old device matches up well with more current tech such as the iPad Air (whose camera also is 5MP). The newer model may sport an 8MP sensor and that would bring it more in line with current top-tier smartphones.

Better Protection

Corning Gorilla Glass 2 protected the 1st generation Nexus admirably. Its successor is expected to feature Gorilla Glass 3. Gorilla Glass is a type of toughened glass that helps prevents scuffs, scratches and fingerprints from mucking up a device's surface.
