The Galaxy S4 Active is a nearly two-year old handset, which came out soon after the Galaxy S4 and offered a little more of the rugged, water-resistant build that Samsung would later implement by default on the next year's Galaxy S5.

But it was only offered in the U.S. by one carrier. And that one carrier (AT&T) is known for usually getting firmware updates out a long time after others have already received their updates. So the news that AT&T has posted a changelog for the Android 5.0.1 Lollipop update, beginning its rollout to Galaxy S4 Active handsets now, is definitely a relief -- especially to owners watching the time tick down towards their phone's firmware support sunset date.

While the Android 5.0.1 Lollipop update has started, it will likely take days, if not weeks, for some segments of AT&T's Galaxy S4 Active customer base to receive OTA update notifications, as the company does these updates in stages.

When you do get Android 5.0.1 Lollipop, it'll come with all the great features of Android Lollipop, including the Priority notifications customization, Smart Lock security for wearables, and enhanced notifications and quick settings screens.

What you won't get is an updated TouchWiz interface, as Samsung is keeping its new UI layer only for newer devices.

To check for an update, go to your Settings and "About Phone" submenu, where you'll find an itme for System Updates. You can only check for updates once a day, and it'll probably behoove your stress levels to wait until you get an auto-notification that the update is available in any case.

When you do get an OTA notification to upgrade to Lollipop, make sure you have more than half a charge, have backed up your data and apps, and download this on WiFi -- most Lollipop updates are around 1GB, and you don't want that going on your data plan.

And if you do get the update, let us know in the comments and tell us how Android Lollipop is running on your Galaxy S4!
