Tara's murder

Mistakenly thinking that Tara ratted out Jax and the rest of the Sons of Anarchy Motorcycle Club pushes Gemma over the edge. Gemma, Jax's mother, sneak attacks Tara with an iron and then attempts to drown her in a sink. She finally stabs Tara several times in the back of the neck with a fork. Blood pools all over and Gemma leaves Tara's lifeless body strewn about the kitchen floor for Jax to find.

Shades of Newtown

The season six premiere of SOA literally started off with a bang. A school-shooting scene shocked audiences all across the country and prompted headed backlash from none other than the Parents Television Council. The scene in which four people are shot dead, including the 11-year-old Matthew, the shooting comes less than a year after the Newtown, Connecticut tragedy. Of course, this is a fictional television show, but the timing is curious.

Male on male rape

Male-on-male rape is one of American society's last taboos. No one wants to listen to the numbers, but more men are raped each year than women. Of course the majority of these rapes happen in prison, but that doesn't diminish the severity of the crime. Sons of Anarchy creator Kurt Sutter plays convicted killer Otto Delaney. His character is repeatedly beaten and raped in prison in retaliation for killing Pamela Toric, sister of a former U.S. Marshall. Never one to shy away from controversy, Sutter had some interesting things to say about the rape scene(s).

"I just want to say I'm probably the only showrunner in this town that would take one in the ass," Sutter said with a grin. "Let me see Matthew Weiner fuckin' lay down flat and take it in the ass!?"

For your information, Matthew Weiner is the creator of AMC's Emmy Award winning series Mad Men.

Chinese Takeout

While Jax is withdrawing from the gun trade a Chinese gang is systematically slaughtered at a warehouse. Season 6 of sons of Anarchy featured many deaths, but none this widespread and quick.
