Alex & Sierra Win 'X Factor,' But Contestant Carlito Olivero, Pitbull, Demi Lovato & Paulina Rubio Brought the Latin Flair
The adorable singing duo and real-life couple, Alex & Sierra, were crowned the winners of The X Factor season three of the Fox competition, but Latino contestant Carlito Olivero, artist Pitbull and X Factor judges Demi Lovato and Paulina Rubio brought the Latin flair to the show.
Alex Kinsey and Sierra Deaton's win on Thursday night ended a months-long competition that put them up against rocker Jeff Gutt and Latino crooner Carlito Olivero.
"Though he didn't finish first, the 24-year-old Olivero brought a bilingual sound to a national television audience, performing songs like 'Dreaming of You' by Selena, 'Suavamente' by Elvis Crespo, 'I Need to Know' by Marc Anthony, and 'Maria Maria' by Carlos Santana," Fox News Latino reports.
"You don't understand -- you just made my dream come true. I love y'all so much. Latinos forever," Olvero said when he was voted into the top three.
Olivero, who works at a coffee shop in Los Angeles, was coached by Paulina Rubio throughout the competition.
Alex & Sierra, who hail from the University of Central Florida, were show favorites from the start; they came into the finals with the most momentum, it seemed, even if Gutt and Olivero impressed with their final performances. The lucky pair will receive a million dollar recording contract with Sony Music, Billboard reports.
"The couple was mentored by show creator and head judge Simon Cowell, who took charge of the groups, but seemed to have won over the rest of the judges' panel as well, including Kelly Rowland, Demi Lovato and Paulina Rubio," Billboard adds.
For their finale number, the duo sang "Say Something" by A Great Big World, Ed Sheeran's "Give Me Love" and "Bleeding Love" by and with Leona Lewis. For the Dec. 19 Christmas-themed episode, they took on the Mariah Carey favorite "All I Want for Christmas Is You."
In addition to Latin Grammy-award winning and Cuban-American star Pitbull, other performers who took the stage for the last show of the season included Mary J. Blige and Glee's Lea Michele, along with X Factor U.K. alums Lewis and One Direction.
