"Star Trek 3" will follow a number of blockbusters as it is slated to film in Dubai.

While there is still very little known about the film, Abu Dhabi's The National is reporting that filming will take place in Dubai at the end of the year.

According to the paper, the news has yet to be confirmed but Simon Pegg was seen around the Abu Dhabi set of Star Wars. The actor is currently writing the script to Star Trek, so perhaps he was finding locations and inspirations for the film.

William Shatner also made an appearance at the Middle East Film & Comic Convention in Dubai. During that convention, the actor admitted that the film will most likely make a cameo in the upcoming film as his former character James T. Kirk. Shatner also admitted that he would love to shoot in Dubai.

Abu Dhabi and Dubai have become popular areas to film. Last year, some of "Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens" was shot in the Abu Dhabi desert around Qasr Al Sarab, Liwa and Tarif. Additionally, "Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol" filmed a number of scene in Dubai.

The third installment to Star Trek is slated to be directed by Justin Lin, who is replacing J.J Abrams. Lin has directed a number of films but is best known for his work on the "Fast and Furious" franchise.

The film is expected to reunite its cast which includes Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Anton Yelchin, Simon Pegg, Zoe Saldana and Karl Urban. Sofia Boutella was recently cast in the film and Idris Elba is rumored to play the villain.

"Star Trek 3" follows in the footsteps of the first two installments which were critical darlings and box office successes. Both films were nominated for Academy Awards and the first film won Best Makeup.

"Star Trek 3" is slated for release on July 8, 2016.
