Jailbreak iOS 8: Developers Still Avoiding the Release of an iOS 8.3 Jailbreak
Because of Apple's security patches and software updates, the most recent jailbreak version is from the older iOS 8.1.2. This means that iOS 8.1.3, 8.2 and 8.3 are left without jailbreak solutions, and it might stay that way based on recent advice from developers, Gotta Be Mobile reports.
TaiG jailbreakers were able to create a jailbreak for iOS 8, but then Apple released iOS 8.1.3 earlier this year. With iOS 8.1.3, Apple was able to patch up the vulnerabilities that TaiG was able to exploit and make the jailbreak useless. The patches carried over all the way through iOS 8.3 and this means there is also no jailbreak currently available for iOS 8.3.
Developers are weary to release an iOS 8.3 jailbreak because they fear that Apple will include patches in iOS 8.4 to render the jailbreak useless. This would mean that users would only be able to enjoy the jailbreak for a couple of months.
Jailbreak developers are instead focusing on the release of iOS 8.4, which is expected to come out soon. Since the next major iOS release after 8.4 is expected to be iOS 9 in the fall, jailbreakers will have plenty of time to use their jailbroken devices before Apple could fix the vulnerabilities.
It appears that iOS 8.4 already has been exploited. Known for his successful jailbreaks in the past, Stefan Esser (also known as i0n1c), has proven that he was able to jailbreak iOS 8.4.
Esser, who showed off a working jailbreak that is running a beta version of iOS 8.4 in a YouTube video, says that he will not be sharing this jailbreak to the public and just wanted to share the video to prove that a jailbreak for iOS 8.4 is possible.
Developers could take some of Esser's ideas and try to release a jailbreak of their own for iOS 8.4.
The updates for iOS 8.4 will include bug fixes and an update to the music app. The new music app will have a new design, a miniplayer and improved searches. Trending searches will be offered when users are looking for iTunes radio stations to listen to, according to 9to5Mac. iOS 8.4 is currently in its second beta and is available to developers only.
