Get yourselves ready for another rum soaked pirate adventure in the Caribbean. Captain Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp) returns to the big screen in Pirates of the Caribbean 5: Dead Men Tell No Tales. Those expecting the film to land this summer, though, are in for a shock. The release date of Pirates 5 has been pushed back a whole year and is now slated to be released sometime in the summer of 2016. Argh!

Why the reason for a delay? After the biggest bomb of Johnny Depp's career, The Lone Ranger, failed to connect with audiences, rumors started to surface that Disney was worried about his marketability. After all, two of Depp's other fairly recent films, The Rum Diaries and Dark Shadows, also fared poorly at the American and International box offices. Apparently, though, Depp is as beloved as ever by the studio heads and the script is the biggest factor in the one-year delay.

"We have an outline everyone loves but the script is not done," Producer Jerry Bruckheimer told The Hollywood Reporter. Bruckheimer went on to add that another factor, price, could've led to the films delay. "It's all a factor. We want a script that everyone's signed off on and a budget that everyone's signed off on." With huge production and marketing budgets, "Coming up with a great script is 'always hard,' Bruckheimer says, and after this past summer movie season saw many films struggle, 'everybody's more cautious.'"

Dead Men Tell No Tales is set to begin filming in the fall of 2014. As the script is undergoing rewrites, there are currently no plot details available for fans to sink their teeth into. However some of the previous film's cast rumored to be returning include Keith Richards as Captain Teague and Kevin McNally as Joshamee Gibbs. Diehard fans can breath a sigh of relief though as series favorite Captain Barbossa (Geoffrey Rush) is definitely onboard for the fifth film. The cast list is slim right now, but it's possible Penelope Cruz, who starred in the fourth film On Stranger Tides, could be back. Orlando Bloom and Keira Knightley, stars of the original three films, aren't likely to make an appearance in Dead Men Tell No Tales, however.

Also of note this is the first film in the epic Pirates franchise that will be directed by two people. Childhood friends Joachim Rønning and Espen Sandberg will be in charge of the production. The two have previously worked together on a bunch of European films, including the 2012 Best Foreign Language Oscar Nominated film Kon-Tiki. Coincidentally that film involved a ship just like Pirates 5 is bound too.
