Cinco de Mayo in Los Angeles: Parties and Parades to Celebrate the Holiday
Cinco de Mayo celebrates the 1862 Mexican victory over the French in the Battle of Puebla. The Mexican holiday also gives reason to celebrate every year with food, drink and socializing with friends and family. In Los Angeles, there are many options to ring in the holiday.
An all-day festival called Puro Pari Dia y Noche will be held all day and night on Tuesday near LA Plaza, according to KPCC. LA Plaza is the site where Los Angeles was founded in 1781. The festival will include live music with DJs and mariachis. There will be food trucks and a bar serving up food and drinks for festival goers to enjoy. A photo booth will be available to capture memories and a mechanical bull will be there to challenge any brave party animals. The event is for guests 21 and older and is free from noon to 5 p.m. After 5 p.m., the party will cost $10. Puro Pari Dia y Noche begins at noon and ends at 2 a.m. Wednesday. It is located at La Plaza De Culturas y Artes at 501 North Main Street in Los Angeles.
There will be plenty of Taco Trucks available throughout Los Angeles both in the daytime and nighttime. These trucks offer fresh, homemade tacos for a cheap price. Each truck is unique and offers different items. Check out KCET's Top 10 Taco Trucks to see some recommendations.
Vegan eaters will also be able to enjoy some tacos by heading to Real Food Daily. Serving up vegan tacos from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m., Real Food Daily will also offer $1 Eel River beers with every taco order. Their nachos will be reduced to the happy hour price all day and night. Real Food Daily has locations in Pasadena, Santa Monica and West Hollywood.
Celebrate Cinco de Mayo with Mexican masked wrestlers (luchadores), burlesque dancers and comedy at Lucha Vavoom. The event takes place at the Mayan Theater (1038 S. Hill St.) in downtown Los Angeles. To order tickets, visit Lucha Vavoom's website.
