iOS 9 Rumors and News: Siri Could Get More Colorful, Smarter
Apple will likely announce its next operating system, iOS 9, at its own Worldwide Developers Conference on June 8. If recent rumors are true, Siri could get more colors and might even become smarter.
The Siri personal assistant offered on iOS devices is visually black and white when users interact with it. On the new Apple Watch, Siri is featured in colors. With the iOS 9 update, Apple is expected to make all versions of Siri more colorful, according to 9to5Mac.
Making Siri more colorful would make it more inviting, CNet reports.
Other tweaks or improvements are unknown for Siri, but the personal assistant could use some work. Siri has been around since 2011, and she has been improved several times since then. However, Google and Windows Phone have their own personal assistants with Google Now and Cortana, respectively. Apple will want to focus on making Siri smarter because according to a test by Piper Jaffray analyst Gene Munster, Google Now is more accurate than Siri.
With the introduction of Windows 10 later this year, Cortana will be utilized on all devices, including tablets and PCs. Users that enjoy their Cortana experience on their laptop or desktop might end up buying a Windows Phone.
Cortana might even appear within iOS devices, according to a Reuters report in March, forcing Siri to prove she is worth using.
Apple's Siri is not quite as advanced as Cortana. Cortana answers questions and sets up tasks -- just like Siri -- but also delivers reminders and alerts. Siri could easily add that feature to match its capabilities with Siri. iOS 9 will come with several bug fixes and improvements. Fewer new features are expected with iOS 9 as Apple will likely focus on making the operating system more stable and reliable, 9to5Mac told CNet.
Apple has released several iOS 8 updates. Currently iOS 8.3 is the latest operating system available to the public, but Apple is already in the beta phase for iOS 8.4.
