'Revenge' Season 4 Finale Spoilers: Victoria Is Back for the Last Show, Showrunner Says Fans Will Be 'Really Glad'
The last episode of ABC’s “Revenge” airs this Sunday.
Fans of the Alexandre Dumas-inspired nighttime soap were shaken up in the last episode when Victoria (Madeleine Stowe) seemed to have come back from the dead.
In an interview with TVLine, showrunner Sunil Nayar was asked if he felt bringing the devious character back for a final showdown might have seemed like a kind of cheat for some viewers.
“Realistically, that’s exactly what I was expecting to get, but even the people who might feel cheated won’t feel that way when they see the last episode," said Nayar.
The executive producer, whose previous credits include work on “Oz” and “CSI: Miami” is utterly confident in the way he has set up the show's ending.
“Even people who are mad at us for doing it will watch the finale and say, ‘I’m actually really glad they did that,'" he said.
And of course the big ending will be an epic showdown between Emily (Emily VanCamp) and Victoria.
“It’s a huge moment, one that this show has been chugging towards for four years. When we finally have that moment, it’s going to be really moving," says Nayar, who emphasizes the psychological weight surrounding the impending scene: “That scene between the two of them is so charged, and the way it ends is really stunning.”
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, VanCamp, who will be starring in the upcoming “Captain America: Civil War,” expressed satisfaction with the decision to end the series. She believes the story has been told well in the four seasons, and she thinks adding a new season would have changed the story entirely.
“I’m kind of happy that ABC allowed us to end this thing without keeping us in limbo. It’s a much nicer way to end,” the actress added.
The series finale of “Revenge,” Episode 23 of Season 4, airs Sunday, May 10 on ABC.
