'The Punisher' News Update: Tom Hardy Wants to Be Marvel's New Punisher
Tom Hardy wants to revive the Marvel character The Punisher and hopes he can play the character one day.
In an interview at Collider, Hardy said that he wanted to play the Frank Castle, aka The Punisher. The actor said, "I want the Punisher... I want the Punisher, or Splinter Cell, I want something... I don't know what I want."
He added, "I'm not big enough to be the Punisher. I'm 5'9. Frank Castle, I would love it. Is that him, isn't it?"
The actor has already expressed his disappointment for having had to leave another comic book film, "Suicide Squad," which he was originally cast in. He was forced to back out because the demanding shoot on "The Revenant," Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu's latest film.
Hardy would be a good choice, especially since he has already portrayed a comic book character from DC Comics. In 2012, he portrayed Bane in "The Dark Knight Rises." While the voice for his character was reviled, critics raved about his subtle work.
Hardy is currently promoting his upcoming film "Mad Max: Fury Road," which is set to world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival a day before it opens in the U.S. The film is set to be one of the highlights of the summer. Hardy was most recently seen in the critically-acclaimed film "Locke," as well as "Child 44." He was also in "The Drop," Lawless," "Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy" and "This Means War."
Marvel has yet to announce official plans for a Punisher movie or TV series. The last time the character appeared on the big screen was in 2004 and that was critically disliked. Daredevil's Charlie Cox has already expressed desire to see the character in the second season of the Netflix show. Perhaps Marvel will include him in the next set of TV shows.
