Christmas Day Shooting Update: Police Looking for Two Suspects in Irvington, NJ Killings
Irvington, New Jersey police are on the lookout for two or more armed suspects responsible for killing three men and wounding two others at Slick's Go Go Bar early Christmas morning. A confrontation with the adult club's bouncer seems to have led to the shooting.
"It appears the gunman was trying to enter the bar armed and was stopped by the bouncer," Chief Anthony Ambrose of the Essex County Prosecutor's Office told WABC.
The bouncer, Woodley Daniel, 32, and the club owner's son, Pierre Clervoyant, 34, were among those killed. The third victim, 27-year-old Mushir Cureton of Newark, may have been an associate of the gunman. Cushir's death seems to have been by accident.
''It appears the gunman was trying to enter the bar armed and was stopped by the bouncer," said Chief Anthony Ambrose of the Essex County Prosecutor's Office.
Two other people were shot, but survived. Their condition or names haven't been released, but medical personnel did bring them to University Hospital in Newark, according to the Star-Ledger. While this was clearly a tragic event it was lucky no one else was injured or killed that night. The club had around 100 people inside at the time of the incident, which took place at approximately 12:30 a.m.
Clervoyant's wife, Candice, was at work when she received word that her husband had been murdered.
"You never expect a call like that," she told the Star-Ledger.
She also mentioned her husband's positivity.
"Everyone knew Pierre because of his smile," she said. "He was always smiling."
Clervoyant's sister, 25-year-old Stephanie Clervoyant, said, "This couldn't be worse for us. Everyone loved my brother."
Police think that the gunman and his associates fled the bar in a gray sedan. So far no arrests have been made nor has the vehicle been located. The Essex County Sheriff's Crimestoppers Program is asking for the public's help in capturing the suspects. Additionally the Crimestoppers Program is offering a reward of up to $10,000 if the suspects are captured and convicted.
