Google News: Order Food Through Your Search Results
Google has ventured into many different areas of business, but these days, it is making things easier for its users with enhanced service options. That is why it should come as no surprise that, when you type in a search for burgers, pizza and Chinese food, you get the option of placing an order for the food directly from the search engine results page (SERP).
This feature makes for an easier food ordering experience and even boosts the economy some, making it an easier way to spend money. But according to an article on PCWorld, this can only be done from your mobile phone -- at least for now.
The concept is fairly simple. You already do local searches for stuff ranging from mechanics and car washes to plumbers and cheap lawnmowers. Take this fairly known technology and now you get an enhanced feature that gives you the option to buy.
Let's use Louisville, Kentucky for example here. For food, such as ordering a pizza, you simply type in a search for "pizza in Louisville, KY" or you can even replace the city and state name with a zip code. The results for local pizza parlors or restaurants come up on your phone.
Google already has the option to call the listed number, as long as your smart phone can recognize the numbering format. But now, you get the option of placing the order directly from the SERP page.
But there is a catch. This new feature is only available with certain food delivery services and the restaurant you choose must be in partnership with them. There are six of them and they are Seamless, Grubhub, Eat24, Delivery.com, BeyondMenu and MyPizza.com. Google claims this is only the initial service options though and they will be adding more in the future.
There has been no mention of any individual restaurants with local delivery services that can get into this network and cash in on the advantages yet.
