Android 5.0 Lollipop Update Release Date: Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 10.1 OTA Rollout Follows Galaxy S5, S4, Note 4 - What's Up Next for Updates?
Samsung may have been slow getting the latest Google Android update, Android 5.0 Lollipop, to its premium handsets earlier this year, but now the company is rolling out the newest candy-coated mobile OS to many of its second-tier devices.
Among those is the Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 10.1, which is receiving the official Android 5.0.2 Lollipop OTA update now, after the higher-end Galaxy Tab S line of devices received Android 5.0.
Both the WiFi-only and cellular data-versions of the Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 10.1 device are getting the update to Android 5.0.2 Lollipop, which comes under firmware virsions T530XXU1BOD8 or T535XXU1BOD8, respectively, according to GsmArena.
It's likely that the Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 8 and Galaxy Tab 4 7 are in line after the top model Tab 4, but nothing official has been released by either Google or Samsung about that possibility.
The good news for Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 10.1 owners is that the update will not only bring Material Design, notifications improvements, and a new lockscreen panel, but also the Lollipop updated TouchWiz UI by Samsung, which brings improvements to multitasking and the speed of the interface.
Right now, the WiFi version of the Galaxy Tab 4 10.1 Lollipop update is rolling out OTA in Spain, and the LTE version is in Finland, but expect English versions of the OS to begin rolling out OTA anytime soon. Check your Settings > About Device > Software Update to see if you can push an OTA update to your Galaxy Tab 4 10.1 if you haven't received an update notification yet.
The download is nearly 1GB in size, so make sure that you're on WiFi before beginning the update, even if you have an LTE-capable version of the tablet.
