The Hollywood film industry continues its full-scale invasion of network television this week with ABC picking up a reboot series of "Uncle Buck." The series is expected to be a single-camera comedy starring Mike Epps in the title role, as reported by Deadline.

The original hit movie in 1989 starred the late John Candy, who is called in the middle of the night by his brother to babysit two young children and a teenage, angst-driven girl who routinely defies him at all turns. The brother has to leave with his wife to attend an out-of-town funeral. Candy soared in the comedy in this role, playing a somewhat dimwitted, inexperienced but loving uncle to the children and the teen.

His antics were polarized by a love interest from his hometown and even a lurking, nefarious neighbor who attempted to seduce him. He played opposite a young Macaulay Culkin ("Home Alone"), whose decisive comedic skills played wonderfully together with Candy's.

The series is expected to depict Epps as the same character, except he is in need of a job and his brother is in need of a nanny. That may signify that the children are a little too much to handle for adult sanity. The irresponsible character of Uncle Buck will play the stark contrast role in the kid's lives and you shouldn't be surprised if he matches their antics with a few adolescent antics of his own.

Nia Long, James Lesure, Iman Benson, Sayeed Shahidi and Aalyrah Caldwell will be co-starring with Epps in this new ABC venture, which is expected to be given a mid-season premier.

According to another article on Deadline, ABC has also picked up "The Muppets" reboot, "The Real O'Neals" and "Dr. Ken," which will star "The Hangover's" Ken Jeong. Jeong is also starring in the Yahoo pickup for Season 6 of "Community."
