With the clock ticking toward her court-ordered deadline, Lindsay Lohan was set to begin serving her community service at a Fort Greene, Brooklyn preschool on Tuesday.

Having completed just more than nine hours out of the 125 hours she has been ordered to serve, the 28-year-old Lohan only has until May 28 to finish or face the overwhelming prospect of jail time, the New York Daily News reports

The sentence stems from Lohan's 2012 conviction in Los Angeles on reckless-driving charges and lying to police after crashing her Porsche while on her way to a film shoot. Judge Mark Young has already warned her if she does not complete the hours by the deadline, "there will be consequences."

On her first day at the Brooklyn facility, Lohan is expected to complete administrative work and have her schedule completed by Tuesday. She tweeted about being back in New York.

"Happy to be home in nyc with my family and friends," she said. "Missed this place."

Lohan, who starred in "Mean Girls," was once seen as a rising film star before legal troubles brought on by her reckless conduct resulted in her veering off course.

Even in trying to complete the terms of her probation, Lohan has ran into legal issues, with the court recently rejecting at least 125 hours she submitted as completed work. Prosecutors strongly criticized Lohan for seeking to be credited for such acts as meeting fans of a stage production after she had completed her performance.

In all, Lohan has been sentenced to jail on at least five different occasions, ordered to work in the Los Angeles morgue and sent to court-mandated rehab several times.

Lohan has also starred in such productions as "Freaky Friday," "Labor Pains," "Liz & Dick" and "Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen."
