‘Outlander’ Season 1 Episode 15 Spoilers: Claire Mounts a Rescue Assault on Wentworth Prison
Although she made decent strides in the last episode of "Outlander," Claire (Caitriona Balfe) was still unable to rescue her husband Jamie (Sam Heughan) and he had been sentenced to death at Wentworth Prison.
According to Spoilers Guide, on the May 16 episode, titled "Wentworth Prison," Claire has aligned herself with the Highlanders and they work on a perilous plan to rescue Jamie from Wentworth Prison. The effort, though, may be futile given the heavily armed nature of the prison and the newly arrived Black Jack Randall (Tobias Menzies).
When Black Jack Randall visits with Jamie in prison, he soon learns that there are fates much worse than death.
In a promo for the episode, Black Jack is clearly torturing Jamie to force him to surrender before the execution.
It is apparent that Jamie is resolved in his denial to surrender to the ominous man, possibly to die with his dignity intact. The death sentence may eventually come as a welcome reprieve for Jamie to escape the clutches of pain brought on in perhaps the most vile way possible.
CarterMatt reports the previous episode revealed Claire had learned that Jamie escaped the Redcoats and was traveling about the countryside. In an effort to locate him, she had taken up with Murtagh to pose as a songstress, with hopes of smoking him out and leading him to her.
The plan worked to a degree. It attracted the attentions of Dougal, who informed her that he had been recaptured, tried and convicted, then sent to Wentworth awaiting execution. She aligns herself with Dougal through the diplomatic process of consent to a marriage proposal, which in turn gives her the necessary leverage to mount the pending assault on Wentworth to break Jamie out.
Either way you look at it, Claire and Jamie may not be the chosen ones for each other. If he dies in prison, then the dark episode plays out accordingly. But if he is saved by Dougal and his men, Claire is still promised the hand of marriage to Dougal. It's a lose-lose situation in that regard.
