Even before the first season has aired, Univision announced "La Banda" will return for a second season.

The show, which features executive producer Simon Cowell, will slightly change its format. For the first season, it will be looking for the next boy band, but for Season 2 it will search the U.S. for the next musical Latina group. The announcement was made during Univision Communications Inc.'s Upfront event on Tuesday, according to a press release from Univision. 

"La Banda 2" will feature contestants in the U.S. and Puerto Rico, who will represent Mexico, Central America, South America and the Caribbean, to find the next hot Latina group.

Season 1 of "La Banda" will begin airing in September and will feature special guest judges. Latin music superstar Ricky Martin, Spanish musician Alejandro Sanz and Italian singer Laura Pausini will serve as judges, according to Billboard.

"Music plays a central role in the lives of Hispanics and we are pleased to continue to bring new musical projects to our audience via this exciting new platform," Alberto Ciurana, president, Programming and Content, Univision Communications Inc said. "We're thrilled to collaborate once again with Simon Cowell's SYCO Entertainment as part of our commitment to entertain and empower Hispanic Americans through the programming they crave."

"La Banda 2" will remain in its Sunday primetime slot in 2016 on the Univision Network.

Joining Cowell as executive producers for SYCO Entertainment are Kelly Belldegrun and Nigel Hall. Cisco Suarez will be the executive producer for Univision.
