Netflix vs. Amazon Prime Video vs. Hulu: Which Streaming Service Is Right for You?
Streaming video services like Netflix, Amazon Prime Video and Hulu have become popular methods to show videos to viewers wanting an on-demand viewing experience. All three services have their distinct advantages and offer different content.
The price is something to look into when deciding on a streaming video service. All three services offer nearly identical prices.
Netflix costs about $8 for a streaming membership. Other plans that offer DVDs by mail and HD-quality video can be added for an additional cost. Netflix offers a 30-day free trial with a credit card. Users must cancel before the 30 days are up to avoid charges.
Hulu Plus is similarly priced at $8 for their premium service. A free version of Hulu offers select shows with fewer episodes. A seven-day trial is offered for Hulu Plus. Users must cancel before the seventh day to avoid being charged for a full month.
Amazon Prime Video is included in the $99-per-year Amazon Prime membership. That equals $8.25 per month. The Prime membership comes with more extra features like free two-day shipping, music and photo storage. Amazon offers a 30-day trial with a credit card. Users can select the "do not upgrade" option to prevent being charged after the free trial period.
Netflix offers the most selection of movies and TV shows. They have been able to form licensing partnerships with CBS, ABC, Fox, NBC, Starz, BBC, Sony and DreamWorks in exchange for content.
Hulu Plus has partnered with Fox, NBC, Disney, MTV and some cable channels. Hulu Plus updates its content faster and more frequently than Netflix and Amazon Prime Video allowing for the latest episodes of shows to be added to the library quicker.
Amazon Prime Video offers a less extensive library of TV shows and movies, but does have some of the same content that Netflix and Hulu Plus has.
Netflix offers the most flexibility for watching, available on many different devices including video game consoles and smartphones. Here is a list of devices that support Netflix.
Hulu Plus also offers many different accessibility options. However, many Smart TVs do not include the Hulu Plus app. Here is a list of all the devices that support Hulu Plus.

The overall advantage goes to Netflix with its extensive library and commercial-free viewing. Netflix also offers a rating system that allows the service to make recommendations as well. Hulu Plus comes in a close second with its frequent updating of TV shows. Amazon Prime Video needs to add more content to contend with Netflix and Hulu Plus.
