After last weekend's disappointing releases, the summer will resurge with two sequels that will attract different types of audiences.

"Avengers: Age of Ultron" will also continue to be a major player at the box office as it continues its global domination.

"Mad Max: Fury Road" - The 1980s franchise returns after years of development. The new installment features stars Tom Hardy and Charlize Theron and tells the story of two rebels who just might be able to restore order: Max, a man of action and of few words, and Furiosa, a woman of action who is looking to make it back to her childhood homeland.

The movie is premiering at the Cannes Film Festival and has scored universal praise from critics who are raving about the visual splendor and the non-stop action sequences. George Miller returns to the helm after working on the original three films, which are beloved staples. After such a hefty marketing campaign, Warner Bros. is opening the film in 3,515 theaters and is looking to open close to $40 million. The studio hopes to attract old fans as well as new fans, who have never seen the original films.

"Pitch Perfect 2" - The "Pitch Perfect" team is back with Anna Kendrick and Rebel Wilson and promises to be a bigger movie than its predecessor. The new movie directed by Elizabeth Banks tells the story of the Barden Bellas who, after a humiliating performance at Lincoln Center, enter an international competition that no American group has ever won in order to regain their status and right to perform. Universal is hoping to score bigger results than the original 2012 film, which was a surprise hit. This time instead of opening the film in limited release, Universal has opted for a wide release hoping to garner more audiences and a bigger fan base. Opening in 3,400 theaters, the studio expects the film will open at No. 1 and make over $50 million.

In limited release, Bleecker Street is releasing their second feature "I'll See You in My Dreams" with Blythe Danner. The film has garnered rave reviews for Danner and there is early Oscar talk.

Meanwhile, Andrew Niccol's "Good Kill" will be released after being the toast of the festival circuit. IFC will release the film in theaters and on demand.

Oscilloscope will release "Animals" while Roadside Attractions will unveil "Where Hope Grows." First Run Entertainment will release three films: "Our Man in Tehran," "One Cut, One Life" and "Know How."

Music Box will unveil "The Film Critic" and Starz Media has "Every Secret Thing." Drafthouse will release the foreign film hit "The Connection" starring Academy Award winner Jean Dujardin. Drafthouse also has "Forbidden Films," which opened on Wednesday.

Among the holdovers that will continue to expand include "Far From the Madding Crowd," "Clouds of Sils Maria" and the box office hit "Ex Machina." The indie hit "Felix and Meira" will also continue its breakout run. Sony Pictures Classics will expand "Saint Laurent" after a solid opening weekend.

Warner Bros. will continue the "Hot Pursuit" run after disappointing results and "Avengers: Age of Ultron" will continue to dominate globally.
