ABC announced last week that the network is cancelling "Cristela" just a few months since its debut in October, Entertainment Weekly reported.

"Cristela" is a multi-cam comedy that shows the life of aspiring lawyer, Cristela Hernandez, played by Cristela Alonzo. The series initially had 6.5 million viewers, but the number dropped to 4.7 million during the final episode on April 17.

Alonzo, reacted strongly over the cancellation of her the self-titled sitcom through her blog.

"When I heard the words 'we've been canceled,' I can't tell you how I felt. I was kinda sad, angry and other things," wrote Alonzo, who also shared why the show is very important to her.

Very Personal

"The setting of the show took place in a real time in my life, a really sad time of my life. I had dropped out of college because I couldn't afford it. My mom got sick. My sister needed help with her kids. I ended up moving in with my sister to take care of my mom and the kids. In real life, this leads up to my mom dying," she wrote.

The actress said that she picked this most difficult period in her life, because she knows many families can relate to it.

Her Family

"I thought it was important to show my family because there had never been one like that on TV before. A lot of the time, Latinos are shown as cholos/cholas that ride around in lowriders. I didn't grow up that way," she added.

Alonzo shared that many people commented that her family is very old-fashioned, but she knows that several families are like hers in Rio Grande Valley.

Source of Inspiration

She thanked her fans and said that she was overwhelmed by the support they gave her, especially when they told her how the show inspired them to reach for their dreams.

"People told me that they decided to go to college for the first time, others told me they're going back to school. I have people telling me that their Latino kids are joining the drama club at their school," Alonzo added.

She is also proud of what her show accomplished and expressed belief that the show has served its purpose based on the comments from fans, who said that their lives changed because of Cristela.

Not the End

She gave a mesage to her fans that even though the show has been cancelled, she will move on with her mission.

"My goal is to make my family proud. My goal is to by tell stories that entertain and speak for the unspoken," Alonzo said. "Trust me, Cristela the show might be done, but Cristela the person has just started."
