For horse racing fans, it doesn't get any better than this.

American Pharoah won the Kentucky Derby on May 2 on the home stretch. His jockey, Victor Espinoza, has been dominating the sport. The Mexican-born jockey has won the last two Kentucky Derby's as well as the 2014 Preakness Stakes. Last year Espinoza nearly won the exclusive triple crown but couldn't win the third leg, the Belmont Stakes.

The last triple crown winner was Affirmed in 1978. Overall 11 horses have won the triple crown, but no one has been able to accomplish the feat in 37 years.

This year just eight horses will be competing at the Preakness Stakes. That's the smallest field since 2000. Espinoza, who has been criticized by many recently for hitting his horse a bit too much, has to take advantage of the small field.

Another interesting theme surrounding the Preakness stakes is the presence of Latino jockeys. Soccer will always be king in Latin America, but horse racing is becoming more and more popular, especially in Mexico. Joel Rosario, Espinoza, Martin Garcia and Javier Castellano all hail from Latin-American nations.

In case you were wondering, the winning jockey of this race is guaranteed $1.5 million. As for the winning horse, he or she should will have all the food needed for the rest of his or her horse life.

Early weather forecast predictions show more than 80 degrees in Baltimore on Saturday evening but a 30 percent chance of thunderstorms.

If Espinoza can ride American Pharoah to victory at the Preakness, it would mark the second consecutive year that he would be in prime position to win the triple crown on the third leg. Espinoza won the first two legs last year riding California Chrome but lost the final leg, the Belmont Stakes. After that disappointment finish, his trainer disagreed with the system because fresh horses didn't have to compete or qualify in the first two races.

Schedule, Where to Watch

The 2015 Preakness Stakes will be held in Baltimore, Maryland on Saturday, May 16. Prepping time will begin at 2:30 p.m. EST and the horses are scheduled to the post at 6:18 p.m. EST. The race will be shown on NBC.

Prediction

A field of just eight horse should set up great for American Pharoah. Although we may get some rain, it shouldn't interfere with the race in any major way. Espinoza will trail around the final turn and make his move on the final stretch.
