Google Nexus 6 vs. OnePlus One: Affordable OnePlus One is Alternative to Google's Nexus 6
The Google Nexus 6 is a smartphone with an extra large display (6 inches), but also an expensive price tag. As an alternative, a new competitor from Chinese company OnePlus, is out there for buyers to consider.
The OnePlus One smartphone is a new device that can be purchased for just $299 for the 16 GB model. For $349, the internal storage can be increased to 64 GB.
The Google Nexus 6 has an enormous screen, measuring in at nearly six inches (5.96 inches). It's a quad-HD display that will look excellent for watching videos and playing games on the phone. However, with that sharp screen, the battery life suffers. Additionally, because of its size, users of the Nexus 6 will not be able to operate the smartphone with one hand and might have trouble getting it into their pocket if they have tight pants on, Know Your Mobile reports.
The OnePlus One decided to go with a 5.5-inch HD screen. This screen is not quad-HD like the Nexus 6, but this does help the battery life last longer. Because of its smaller display, the One is lighter than the Nexus 6.
The Google Nexus 6 uses the powerful 2.7 GHz quad-core Snapdragon 805 processor and has 3 GB of RAM.
The OnePlus One includes the 2.45 GHz Snapdragon 801 processor and 3 GB of RAM. When it was released, this was the fastest processor for a smartphone.
Both smartphones use a 13 megapixel (MP) rear-facing camera. For the latest smartphones, these cameras are not all that impressive, but they still take good pictures. The One offers built-in photo editing software to edit photos after they are taken. Based on reviews, the Nexus 6 camera was one complaint that users had with Google's latest phone.
An advantage of purchasing the Nexus 6 is its software. Since it is a Google phone, it will be the first to receive upgrades to the Android operating system. Currently, the latest Android operating system is 5.1 Lollipop and that version is already available to the Nexus 6. The OnePlus One comes with 5.0 Lollipop.
The big difference in the two devices is price. For as low as $299, a One can be purchased. However, a Nexus 6 will set a buyer back $649. Recently, T-Mobile started a promotion that is offering $100 off the Nexus 6, PhoneDog reports.
