Apple Homekit News: The Highly Anticipated Apple Platform Delayed
The technology currently being developed for a platform on Apple devices, which will enable a user to control simple household electronics, such a light switch or door locks, is expected to be delayed, according to a report by Fortune.
The simple truth is Apple has never officially announced when the platform would be launched, but it was speculated that it would be available around May or June, or sometime in spring. But, it did announce the technology was coming last June at their worldwide developers conference.
Fortune reported that sources close to the situation have said Apple is expected to announce its launch at its worldwide developers conference this upcoming June, which is a full year after they announced it was coming.
The delay is speculated to be due to the software having a stability issue that the company is trying to work out. Apple is apparently trying to shrink the code down in an effort to make it compatible with battery-powered devices.
Although most of this information is from leaks and nothing has been officially announced besides the confirmation that the technology is in development, it has been rumored to be able to control compliant electronics with its Siri application. It will also likely to be able to be programmed to do simple tasks for you such as turn off your lights or lock your door when you leave the house, but nothing is official.
The original sales pitch had promised that is was easy to setup and could connect to your Wi-Fi network.
Developers wishing to get on the network for HomeKit compliant products will have to go through the same channel as the "Made for iPhone/iPad" program, which ensures certain security standards are met.
9to5 Mac reported that Apple began accepting product plans from developers who wish to be on the compliant product list on Nov. 14, 2014.
