Nina Dobrev set the record straight on why she chose to leave her leading role on "The Vampire Diaries" after six seasons.

After Dobrev confirmed that she will not return for Season 7 of the hit series last month, speculation emerged that she was leaving because her ex-boyfriend and co-star, Ian Somerhalder, got married to her former friend Nikki Reed.

According to MTV, Dobrev and Somerhalder broke up in 2013 after dating for three years. However, they continued their onscreen romance, playing Elena and Damon on "TVD."

About a year later, Somerhalder began dating Reed, who ironically also played a vampire in "The Twilight Saga." Within six months, the two got engaged in January 2015, reports TooFab.com. They then said, "I do," in a beautiful wedding in in Santa Monica, California, on April 26, reports ET Online.

However, according to Dobrev, Somerhalder's whirlwind romance with Reed had nothing to do with her decision to depart from "TVD." In an interview with E! News, Dobrev confronted the rumors head on, revealing that there is no bad blood between her and her ex.

"I've said this before, that we didn't break up because anything bad happened or because there wasn't love or friendship," said the 26-year-old actress.

"I love him and the friendship is still strong and I think he's great and I care about him. And that didn't change. Yes, we're professional and that's fine. We were friends long before we dated and we still are now."

She went on to say that she couldn't be happier for her ex-boyfriend and his new wife.

"When I heard about the wedding, I thought it was beautiful," she said. "They look happy and I am happy, and so I don't see why there should be a problem with that. Of course, we're on a teen drama show, everyone's going to look for drama, I just ignore it."
