Ice Cube Lakers Fan: '22 Jump Street' Actor Still Has no Love for the Clippers, Says Los Angeles Only Has One Team
No matter what they do, the L.A. Clippers can't win in the eyes of longtime Lakers fan Ice Cube.
Not long before Chris Paul, Blake Griffin and company were poised to face the Houston Rockets in a winner take-all Game 7 elimination game of the Western Conference semifinals Sunday afternoon, Cube took the time just before tip off to go as far as to muddle the waters about the very existence of the team that shares the Staples Center lease with his beloved Lakers.
"There's only one team in L.A." the Compton born rapper told TMZ.
It's not the first time the outspoken hip hop star has gone on the attack against the Clippers.
He once told ESPN, "I have a problem with the Clippers owner more than the players. The Clippers have had a lot of talent over the years, but never kept them. I got a problem with the organization on that level."
Donald Sterling was in thenews last year. He was eventually banned from the league and forced to sell his team for making racist comments about fans and even NBA legend Magic Johnson.
At the time, Ice Cube was one of the many celebrities who took to Twitter to denounce him.
With the team having made stries, it might seem that Ice Cube might be willing to relent in his disdain.
You would be wrong. Ice Cube let it be known the only team that truly matters to him is the Lakers and that he still bleeds their gold and purple colors. Even with the Lakers struggling to well below .500 records in back-to-back seasons, that doesn't appear likely to change anytime soon.1
For the record, the Clippers were eliminated by the Rockets 113-100.
