‘Supernatural’ Cast & News: Jared Padalecki Calls off Public JIBCON Appearances, Says He Was in 'Desperate and Urgent Need' of His Family
Fans of the U.S. show "Supernatural" were quite worried this weekend when star Jared Padalecki, who portrays Sam Winchester in the series, left JIBCON 2015 in Italy Friday, cancelling his other public appearances as well.
In a series of tweets from the actor last Friday, Padalecki wrote, "I need all of the love I can get right now. Please please give me a few seconds of your time and write me. #AlwaysKeepFighting"
This is reminiscent of his rhetoric following a Variety interview last March where the actor opened up about his charity "Always Keep Fighting."
"I, for a long time, have been passionate about people dealing with mental illness and struggling with depression, or addiction, or having suicidal thoughts and, strangely enough, it's almost like the life I live, as well," Padalecki revealed to Variety.
He added, "And I, in the past, have had my own struggles of not [being] so happy with where I am in life, which is strange and I think it goes to show. ... Maybe a lot of people don't know this, but Season 3, we were shooting an episode, and I went back to my trailer to get changed and just kind of broke down."
The actor then revealed that a visit from a doctor, following a discussion with him, led him to believe that he was clinically depressed. This happened when he was just 25 years old, and he said that he had a hard time understanding the reason for it, considering he had his own TV show and was loved by many, including his dogs at home.
But over the weekend, as reported by People Magazine, Padalecki canceled several upcoming public appearances abroad and tweeted several statements on social media that left fans worried about the troubled young actor.
This includes another tweet on Friday that said, "Dear #JIBCON and #AHBL6. I am in desperate and urgent need of my family. I am so sorry to tell you this but I must head home."
In a statement sent to Zap2it today, Padalecki's manager wrote on the actor's behalf, claiming exhaustion is the reason for these cancellations.
"Jared wanted everyone to know he loves meeting his fans around the world and was very upset at having to cancel his trips to Rome and Australia," the statement to Zap2it read. "Jared has pushed himself to his limits and is suffering from exhaustion. His SPN family is so important to him, and he asks that they Always Keep Fighting. At this time he needs to be home with his family."
The statement added, "He's doing better already and is excited about shooting 'Supernatural' Season 11 this July."
