Director Duncan Jones tweeted the first character image from his upcoming fantasy movie "Warcraft" on Monday.

It is a picture of Orc Chieftain Orgrim Doomhammer in the likeness of English actor Robert Kazinsky, who will portray him in the upcoming movie. The Common Gateway Interface (CGI) work comes from George Lucas' motion picture visual effects company Industrial Light and Magic.

"Can't tell you what a relief it is to FINALLY have at least something released from 'Warcraft' for you all to see!" Jones captioned the tweet.

Wired magazine included the image of Doomhammer in its latest issue, which features the work of Industrial Light and Magic. The visual effects company also created the Hulk for "The Avengers: Age of Ultron."

"We were looking for someone who would be able to perform the gruffness, the humor, and the toughness of this character. We've gone beyond the point where these are just creatures in movies. We now have the technology and the ability to make new characters entirely," Jones told the magazine.

The British filmmaker, who has previously directed successful science-fiction movies "Moon" and "Source Code," was hired by video game maker Blizzard Entertainment to co-write and direct "Warcraft" in 2013 after "Spider-Man" director Sam Raimi walked off the job. Raimi later said that his vision for the movie differed from Blizzard's, which led to his departure.

Jones' "Warcraft" movie was initially due for release in 2015 but has been delayed twice. It is scheduled for an early 2016 release in the U.S.

In April, Jones revealed to 2P what fans can expect in the upcoming film.

"There has been a long history of trying to make a Warcraft film, and for a number of reasons, it never quite happened," Jones said. "I was lucky. When I went to talk to Chris Metzen and the guys at Blizzard, we both saw things the same way. A Warcraft film should not be about a good race of humans battling an evil race of Orcs! Warcraft should be about heroes on both sides trying to avoid a conflict, when villains leave them no choice."

Yibada recently revealed what actors will portray the "Warcraft" characters from both factions.

The Humans of Stormwind will feature:

  • Travis Fimmel ("Vikings") as Anduin Lothar
  • Ruth Negga as Lady Taria
  • Ben Foster ("Lone Survivor" and "3:10 to Yuma") as Magus Medivh
  • Dominic Cooper ("Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter") as King Llane Wrynn
  • Ben Schnetzer as Khadgar

Leading The Horde:

  • Toby Kebell ("Dawn of the Planet of the Apes") as Durotan
  • Rob Kazinsky (HBO's "True Blood") as Orgrim Doomhammer
  • Daniel Wu as Gul'dan
  • Clancy Brown as Blackhand.

The movie will also star Paula Patton ("Mission: Impossible -- Ghost Protocol" and "About Last Night") as Garona Halforcen, a determined survivor caught between the Alliance and the Horde.

The epic fantasy film is based on the "World of Warcraft" video game series and set in the world of Azeroth. It has a tentative release date in U.S. theaters of March 11, 2016.
