'The Big Bang Theory' Season 9 Spoilers: Will Sheldon Try to Win Amy Back?
Despite Sheldon and Amy's shocking breakup in the Season 8 finale of "The Big Bang Theory," the show's executive producer hinted that there will be hope for the geeky couple to get back together when the comedy series returns this fall.
The Season 8 finale ended with an emotional cliffhanger last week as Sheldon and Amy's slow-moving relationship came to a dramatic end. After dating for years, Amy told Sheldon that she was fed up and frustrated with the lack of growth in their relationship and needed space.
"Being your girlfriend is so challenging, emotionally, physically," Amy told Sheldon via video chat. "This isn't easy to say because I love you, but I need some time to take a step back and reevaluate our situation. I hope you understand."
Devastated by the breakup, Sheldon began talking to the Gollum figurine on his desk and pulled out an engagement ring that he planned to give Amy.
During an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, showrunner Steve Molaro suggested that Sheldon may work to win Amy back.
"He's clearly fond of her," said Molaro. "I don't think they're done speaking by any means. He's so fond of her -- something is going to happen between them, I'm sure."
Molaro also teased that Sheldon and Amy's breakup will have a ripple effect on the dynamic of the group since Amy has a tight relationship with each of the member in the gang.
"It ripples through a lot of relationships and how they both handle this and what happens moving forward is what we're so excited to jump in on season nine with," he said.
Despite speculation, the EP also confirmed that actress Mayim Bialik will reprise her role as a series regular playing Amy.
"She's not going anywhere," Molaro assured.
In addition, Molaro teased what will happen next in Leonard and Penny's relationship, who are planning to elope.
"They're still driving to Vegas but the mood is certainly a little chilly. They're in a very interesting place and we'll find out what happens when they get there," he said.
