Josh Duggar of the popular TLC reality show "19 Kids and Counting" was reportedly named in a police report as the alleged offender in an underage sexual abuse probe, reports In Touch magazine.

The charge of sexual assault in the fourth degree came about shortly before 2005 when Duggar was 17. According In Touch, Duggar was taken to the Arkansas State Police station by his father, Jim Bob Duggar, who said he caught his son leaving a girl's bedroom and "learned something inappropriate happened."

Although a police report of the incident was issued, police and prosecutors did not complete their investigation into the accusations against Josh. The state trooper who took the report never followed up. In a bizarre twist, the state trooper was later sentenced to a 56-year prison term for a child pornography conviction.

Arkansas State Police eventually alerted the Child Abuse Hotline about the inactive Duggar case. The Crimes Against Children Division and Springdale Police Department started to pick up the case but realized the three-year statute of limitations had passed. It would not have been possible to prosecute Josh even if the allegations were warranted. The investigation was discontinued.

Sgt. Darrel Hignite of the Springdale Police Department told In Touch: "I can't comment or discuss [this case] because of the sensitive nature and because it involved a juvenile."

The Duggar family, including Josh, has not commented on the accusation.

Josh has received more bad press in recent months than any other Duggar family member. He and wife, Anna, 26, came under fire in April for purchasing a home while owing $13,654 in back taxes.

Also in April, Josh, who serves as the executive director of the Family Research Council's advocacy group, was criticized for saying during an interview that the LGBT fight for marriage equality is an effort to "silence" Christians.

Josh lives with Anna and their three children in Washington D.C. The couple is expecting a fourth child revealed to be a baby girl during a recent episode of "19 Kids and Counting."
