Although Nina Dobrev will not return to "The Vampire Diaries" next season, fans will have a lot to look forward to as the Damon and the gang adjusts to living without Elena.

Elena said goodbye to her loved ones during the Season 6 finale last week after Kai put a spell on her that will keep her in a coma-like state as long as Bonnie is alive. As a result, it is likely that she will not awake from comatose for about 60 to 70 years from now.

However, even with the absence of the series' star, The CW President Mark Pedowitz believes the show will go on for many more seasons.

"It's going to be much more focused on the brothers, Damon and Stefan, [with] a lot of places for both Kat Graham and Candice [Accola's] characters to come out," he said according to Entertainment Weekly. "We believe that with Julie Plec at the helm and Caroline Dries running the show that we will have a show. Most of this year has been getting to the point where we could have a reset knowing that Nina was leaving, so they've done a great job. We'll see."

Plec also hinted that Dobrev's exit from the show gives the series more room to fully develop the other characters.

"We think that losing the character from the show actually creates a tremendous amount of emotional opportunity and story for all these other characters that we love just as much," she told EW.

Kay Graham suggested that the loss of Elena will affect the relationship that her character, Bonnie, has with Damon.

"I'm hoping that we see both sides of their relationship and how it can affect them both because it's obviously going to screw with Bonnie and him, but especially Bonnie."

According to TVLine's Ausiello, fans will see a lot more of Mama Salvatore, her band of renegade heretic and Enzo in Season 7. Executive producer Caroline Dries revealed that Enzo will get caught in the middle of a war between Mama Salvatore and her sons. "He's eventually going to have to choose a side," Dries told TVLine. "In some ways, he feels drawn to Lily; she turned him and she's the only real family he has. But he's also friends with Damon, so it's going to create an interesting dilemma, and whichever side he chooses will have serious ramifications."

While speaking to Entertainment Tonight at The CW Upfronts, actor Ian Somerhalder opened up about what's in store for Damon, Stefan and the rest of our Mystic Falls favorites without Elena.

"Our hope for the show is to go back to what originally made people fall in love with the show," he said.

"The dark, the sexy, volatile, the unpredictable -- these are all things that we look to encompass that was sort of enveloped in this season of the show," he added.
