Apple users are already looking forward to seeing what's in store for the iOS 9. Rumors have circulated that a new "Home" app is set to come out with the latest iOS this June, which would allow users to manage certain aspects of their houses via their Apple device.

The new "Home" app is designed to work as the hub for HomeKit devices. The new framework was introduced last autumn to help users control their home appliances and electronics with a simple touch on their iPhones or iPads.

According to Pocket-lint, the Cupertino-based firm also developed the HomeKit framework in conjunction with Siri, where one could simply dictate what must be done to the devices through Apple's voice assistant.

Of course, manufacturers must install and make their electronics and products HomeKit capable for this to work, noted 9to5mac. When this technology is installed in garage doors, light bulbs and door locks, users could "remotely control parts of their homes directly from iOS devices."

The technology presented in 2014 was just the early stages. However, reports say that the Tim Cook-led firm continued working on it to further develop the next-generation framework.

The new "Home" app, on its initial stages, is said to have the following capabilities:

  • Discover and set-up wireless connectivity of compatible HomeKit devices to the iOS system
  • Create visual renditions of rooms in the house for easier organization and connection of HomeKit gadgets
  • Show series of screens for users to search and discover new HomeKit devices and apps
  • Use Apple TV as hub to connect all HomeKit devices

While the features of the new app are still minimal, Apple revealed that accessories for HomeKit would be announced in June and iOS users expect it to happen at the WWDC.

"We already have dozens of partners who have committed to bringing HomeKit accessories to the marker and we're looking forward to the first ones coming next month," said a representative from Apple.

Other rumors suggest that Apple is working on its own electronics, which are compatible with the HomeKit that could be managed with the new app.

Earlier this year, another report from 9to5mac wrote that the tech giant is open to allow non-HomeKit compatible devices to be connected. However, the system would have to use a "bridge hardware" to do so.

With the limited functionality of the new "Home" app, it is not yet clear whether it would be unveiled alongside the new iOS 9 this June.
