A North Carolina councilman fulfilled many Americans dreams this week: he quit his job and wrote an entire letter in Klingon, a language from Star Trek.

The Charlotte Observer reports that David Waddell, an Indian Trail councilman, wanted to boldly go where no man has gone before... off of the board. Waddell decided to announce his resignation to Mayor Michael Alvarez via a letter written in Klingon.

"Teach (the) city (the) constitution
I will return next time to (witness) victory.
Resignation occurs in 2014 the 31st of January.
Perhaps today is a good day (to) resign.

David Waddell," the letter said once translated.

The last line of the letter is reportedly based on an old Klingon proverb.

Waddell helpfully included a translation of the Klingon letter, which he acquired from Bing.com, with his resignation. According to the soon-to-be former councilman, he wrote the letter in Klingon as an inside joke.

"Folks don't know what to think of me half the time," Waddell told The Charlotte Observer. "I might as well have one last laugh."

Mayor Alvarez did not get as much of a laugh as Waddell.

"It's an embarrassment for Indian Trail, and it's an embarrassment for North Carolina," the mayor told the newspaper.

Waddell is currently enjoying his first term on the board. His four-year stay was supposed to end on Dec. 2015.

The Klingon speaker decided to resign because he was perturbed by the increasing development occurring within the town, as well as new implements that make it harder for citizens to request public information.

Waddell believed he would have better luck coming to board meetings as a regular plumber citizen than as a councilman. He also wanted more time to "mount a write-in campaign on the Constitution Party's platform for Kay Hagan's U.S. Senate seat," The Charlotte Observer reports.

According to Joe Fivas, Town Manager, Waddell's replacement process will begin in early February at the latest.
