Just a few weeks ago the Alabama Crimson Tide Football team were presumed national title favorites. The back-to-back defending National Champions had an 11-0 record on the season and were virtually guaranteed a spot in the Vizio BCS national title game. All they had to do was defeat their bitter in-state rival, the fourth ranked Auburn Tigers, to claim the SEC West Title. Leaving the comforts of home behind, the Tide failed to execute when it mattered most against the Tigers. 'Bama missed not one, but two kicks heading into the fourth quarter to help the fourth ranked Tigers stay with them on the scoreboard.

With one second left on the clock and the score tied at 28, legendary Alabama coach Nick Saban had a decision to make. The Crimson Tide still had a chance at avoiding overtime and clinching a perfect regular season if they came away with a game winning field goal. When the third missed kick sailed towards the Tiger's end zone the game seemed destined for overtime. No one on the Crimson Tide staff thought about Auburn's back return man, Chris Davis. The senior defensive back caught the missed field goal deep in his own end zone and ran it back 109 yards for the game winning score.

Despite the setback many fans and sportswriters still regarded the Crimson Tide as the best team in the nation. The 'Bama players and coaches had a month to get over the setback and were prepared for last night's Allstate Sugar Bowl game versus the Oklahoma Sooners. The Sooners headed into the game 16.5-point underdogs yet stymied 'Bama all night long for the 45-31 win. The Crimson Tide now head into the offseason with their first losing streak in five years. The Auburn Tigers, on the other hand, are playing in next week's championship game against quarterback Jameis Winston and the Florida State Seminoles. That stings.

But roll tide no more? Probably not, in fact Alabama will likely be ranked in the preseason top five to start off next season. A bunch of starters return including three star running backs. Number one high school recruit defensive end Da'Shawn Hand is also headed to Tuscaloosa as well.
