Some sad news for Ricky Martin -- he has confirmed today that he has split from his longtime boyfriend, Carlos Gonzalez Abella, not long after confirming that the two will get married in Spain this year!

According to Australia's News.com, the couple have confirmed their split after four years of dating. Rumors have been swirling that the couple have been on the skids for a while now, and Ricky hinted at the trouble with his latest Tweets, which read in part, "Change oh changes. Just because the lesson comes from someone you love, does not mean it is correct."

Fox News states that Martin's rep confirms the split. "Ricky and Carlos have mutually agreed to end their relationship but continue to be united by friendship and their shared experiences," a rep for the Puerto Rican born singer said in a statement.

A shame, too, that this happened, considering it wasn't long ago that Martin spoke glowingly about his partner to Vanity Fair Magazine. "I have experienced wonderful things with my partner. Complexity, understanding, and, at the same time, freedom, not being afraid that your partner is judging you. That is what I have found with Carlos," Martin said. "We're going on four years together ... When I started the process with my sons, Carlos wasn't in my life. He said: 'I'm looking for a boyfriend, not a father with a family.' And I said to him: 'You've found a grown-up, full-fledged man.' I created a family structure and if he didn't understand he'd ask me questions and we were on our way."

Our thoughts are with Ricky during what is undoubtedly a difficult time. We wish him, his partner, and his children all the best.
