‘Wayward Pines’ Season 1 Episode 3 Spoilers: Theresa and Ben’s Search for Ethan is Impeded by Sheriff Arnold Pope in ‘Our Town, Our Law’ [Watch]
In the last episode of "Wayward Pines," Kate Hewson gave Ethan Burke a clue about where agent Bill Evans' widow lived. Ethan visited Mrs. Evans, but she provided no answers, only more mysteries. She said that Bill did not work for the Secret Service -- he mowed lawns, and he killed himself.
Ethan told Sheriff Arnold Pope what Mrs. Evans said about Bill killing himself. Pope told Ethan that Bill's corpse was in the morgue. When Ethan inspected the body, he found a small notebook in Bill's shoe that contained an escape plan.
Later, Ethan and Beverly talked. Beverly told Ethan how to remove the tracking device in his arm. She also told him that Pope had killed Bill in front of everyone in the town square.
Ethan and Beverly attended dinner at Kate's house, leaving their tracking devices behind. When Beverly slipped up and discussed her past during dinner, she became nervous. Harold and Kate suspected that their guests were going to attempt escape and told town authorities.
Ethan and Beverly ran through the streets as phones began ringing loudly throughout town. The ringing phones alerted everyone to their escape. Ethan and Beverly split up, and Beverly was cornered. Ethan watched from afar as Pope strung up Beverly in the town square and announced, "We cannot tolerate people who don't play by the rules" before slitting her throat.
The episode ended with Ethan's wife, Theresa, and son, Ben, on their way to Idaho.
In the upcoming "Wayward Pines" Episode 3, "Our Town, Our Law," Pope knows that Theresa and Ben are on their way to Wayward Pines in search of Ethan. When they make a pit stop on their journey, he cuts into their vehicle's oil line. Later, he stops their car to alert them of the oil leak. What happens next is unknown: Will he prevent them from reaching Wayward Pines or lure them into staying in the strange town?
The sneak peek video clip also reveals that real estate agent Peter McCall gives Ethan a house in Wayward Pines so that he has a place to call home. The gesture doesn't sit well with Ethan, and when Peter inquires as to why, Ethan tells him, "I don't live here."
As will become evident in "Our Town, Our Law," every resident of the creepy town arrived in a manner similar to how Ethan did.
"Not everybody wakes up in the middle of the forest; there are different ways [to get there]," showrunner Chad Hodge told TVLine. "All -- or most -- of them have learned to play by the rules, or you're going to get killed like Beverly did."
Hodge also provided fans this bonus spoiler: Wayward Pines is not part of a coma or dream.
"Wayward Pines is a real place," he said.
Watch "Wayward Pines" Episode 3 "Our Town, Our Law" that airs on Thursday, May 28, at 9 p.m. ET on Fox.
