'Arrow' Actress Willa Holland Explains Why Harley Quinn Storyline had to be Scrapped From the Show [Watch]
While the anticipation for the premiere of Season 4 of "Arrow" continues to build, series star Willa Holland confirmed that fans should not hold their breaths to see DC Comic supervillain Harley Quinn.
Although Harley was featured in a cameo on Season 2 of "Arrow," Holland says that the higher ups at DC Comic blocked the character from appearing on the television series.
Apparently, "Arrow" producers had "big plans for Harley," Holland told Flickering Myth. However, those plans were scrapped because the villain will be featured in the upcoming Warner Bros. movie, "Suicide Squad."
According to io9.com, Harley's character was played by Cassidy Alexa in a deleted scene from "Unthinkable," while Tara Strong voiced her in an episode called "Suicide Squad" in Season 2 of "Arrow."
Holland, who plays Thea Queen on The CW show, also hinted that fans will see less of ARGUS and the Suicide Squad in general on TV moving forward.
"Pertaining to all the movies that are being made and stuff like that in the comic book world, it's also taken a side away from the TV shows, she said, reports MCM London. "Because we had the Suicide Squad and these things inside of it, ARGUS. We were going really heavily into that for a minute. And then, something must have come down from DC or some higher-up above that said "No, you must cease and desist because we're going to make it into a movie and we can't have anyone spoil that idea."
She added that viewers got a chance "to see that little pigtail and the ARGUS uniform and the little treat of Harley Quinn, and it just got ripped away. So if we could actually have Harley Quinn on the show, that would be amazing. But it's never going to happen."
Margot Robbie will portray Harley in the "Suicide Squad" film, which is set for release in August 2016.
