Superhero TV series are on the rise with characters from both Marvel and DC Comics taking center stage during primetime. CBS Network is the latest to join the trend with its upcoming "Supergirl" television series, which is set to come out in late 2015.

Here are some of the details about the latest female hero to grace the tube soon.

While the show is the first TV series centering on Supergirl, this is not the first time the comic book original was adapted for the screen. In 1984, actress Helen Slater starred in the movie "Supergirl" as a spin-off from Christopher Reeve's "Superman" movies.

In a report, Variety confirmed that Slater would join the cast for the TV show alongside another "Superman" alum, Dean Cain. The roles for both actors have not been disclosed.

In December 2014, The Wrap reported that "Vampire Diaries" actress Claire Holt was being eyed to play the superheroine. However, in January 2015, Entertainment Weekly said that "Glee" alum Melissa Benoist has already closed the deal on the lead role. Benoist would portray Supergirl Kara Zor-El, aka Kara Danvers.

CBS Entertainment Chairman Nina Tassler explained the qualifications they looked for when searching for their "Supergirl" during the TCA press tour in early January.

"She's got to be every woman. She's got to be specific. She's got to be a terrific actor. It's looking for someone who embodies both the freshness and the exuberance of being a young woman in today's challenging climate and being someone who can carry this kind of series on her shoulders," Tassler told reporters present at the event.

"Ally McBeal" and "Brothers & Sisters" star Calista Flockhart would also star in the TV show as Cat Grant, a reporter from the Daily Planet. According to Deadline, executive producer Greg Berlanti played a part for the actress to accept the role. Flockhart, who previously worked with Berlanti in the show, has since shied away from TV series after the show "Brothers & Sisters" ended.

While the show is set to come out in fall, the pilot episode for the highly anticipated series has been leaked online via torrent sites. The version was in 1080p, noted Forbes. As the format was of good quality, some fans have speculated that the leak was actually a marketing ploy to increase interest in the series. CBS have yet to comment on the issue.

"Supergirl" is scheduled to premiere in November 2015 with episodes airing every Monday at 8 p.m. on the CBS Network.
